Earth Hour is a worldwide event to shut off the lights on March 31 at 8:30 p.m. to take action on climate change. The 60+ app aims to turn that initiative into a year-round phenomenon.
Earth Hour is an event that began in 2006 in Australia by the World Wildlife Federation (WWF) that seeks to unite the world community in taking action against climate change by turning off their lights for one hour. More than 5,200 cities and towns in 135 countries participated worldwide in 2011. This year, Earth Hour is being held on Sat., March 31 at 8:30 p.m., but WWF’s 60+ app seeks to extend the hour’s mission to a year-round phenomenon.

Designed for iPhones, the app provides lists of simple, environmentally friendly actions users can take, and provides a way for them to easily share their accomplishments with friends and family via social networks. The design of the app is appealing—with hand-drawn and hand-sewn illustrations and badges and an interface created from discarded cardboard boxes and paper.
