E offers internships in our editorial, advertising, marketing and art departments. These internships are unpaid, but can fulfill college course requirements and provide beneficial job experience whether in producing published articles, researching ad leads, assisting at trade shows or designing artwork.

Editorial Interns

Our editorial interns are encouraged to take initiative, work independently and produce publishable writing samples during their time here. We give ample opportunity to learn the fundamentals of environmental journalism—from research, to interviewing, to revising, fact checking and soliciting photographs. Interns may be asked to proofread layouts and assist with special projects, and they are encouraged to pursue those environmental topics they are most passionate about. There are even opportunities for travel to conferences and other green events.

E's editorial internship program has proven a valuable first step for many young environmental journalists who have gone on to writing and publishing careers at the Christian Science Monitor, Audubon Magazine,, Chelsea Green Publishing and a host of other respected media outlets.

Editorial intern duties include:

  • Writing, researching and fact-checking editorial content
  • Updating content on E's website and social media pages
  • Web research
  • Proofreading layouts
  • Assisting editorial staff with special projects
  • Assisting with photo research as needed
