E’s Green Home Picks: Setting the Mood
From Ambient Lighting to Layering to Plastic-Free Pops
Mood Lighting
There is indeed something delightful about the Yup DeLight Pebble ($69.99), an egg-shaped LED light that’s weather resistant for outdoor use, offers eight primary colors and can be put on candle mode for creating special ambiance. The pebble is 100% recyclable, rechargeable and battery operated (it has a remote), and lasts 12-20 hours on a single charge. yupinc.ca

Layering need not apply only to clothing, it can also be great for bedding. Consider the Organic Cotton Honeycomb Blanket ($122/throw; $292/king) from greenhome.com, thick enough to provide a snuggly extra layer but still breathable. Available in a range of naturally dyed earth tones, the organic blankets are hand-woven, bound with 100% organic percale bindings and fair trade-certified. greenhome.com
Plastic-Free Pops
Sure, making popsicles at home is environmentally (and economically) preferable to buying them pre-packaged, but then there’s that pesky issue of freezing them in plastic. Rejoice! The stainless steel container company Onyx offers a six-pack of Stainless Steel Ice Pop Molds ($39.95), complete with stand, lids and colored silicone rings for holding popsicle sticks in place. The company says they’re working on making reusable bamboo sticks, but offer Birch Ice Pop Sticks ($.25/each) for now. onyxcontainers.com
