A short video from the nonprofit Healthy Child Healthy World lays out the problem of chemical contamination in our homes and products.
A short video from the nonprofit Healthy Child Healthy World does a masterful job of simply laying out the problem of chemical contamination in our homes and products. It begins with the idea of homes as the once-safe place, where grass grew by sun and water, toys were handmade and furniture made from real wood. Fast-forward to today, where chemicals are rampant–in our lawns via pesticides and herbicides, in our furniture and mattresses via formaldehyde and flame retardants, in our children’s toys via BPA and phthalates in plastic.
Tellingly, the video notes: “Our regulatory agencies can’t keep up with the marketplace… And parents can’t keep up with the science.”
Healthy Child Healthy World sets out to simplify daily decisions for parents much the way this video does–leading them to easy alternatives to toxic products and inspiring them to take action–be it in helping to pass the Safe Chemicals Act or simply cooking healthier foods and buying safer cleaning products. Their site features lots of great guides for busy parents–no science degree required.
