Bill Al’s Green Adventure

In his bestseller, Earth in the Balance, and his speech at the Democratic National Convention, Al Gore said that the environment should be “the central organizing principle of the 21st Century.” It should replace the Cold War and then some, since it must include all of the countries on the planet. They were bold words, largely ignored by the press and public. (On election day, only six percent of the voters called the environment a key issue.) The words that dominate our day are the ones that got Clinton elected: “It’s the economy, stupid.” But while Bill tackles the economy with a mantra of change, and Hillary faces down the health care crisis, al will serve as “president of the environment” in the words of Reid Wilson, the Sierra Club’s legislative director.
