Before you head for the shore, use this app to discover the cleanest beaches in your area.
Created by the Waterkeeper Alliance, Swim Guide shows you which beaches are safe for swimming based on government data and how to get there. Funded entirely through donations from individuals, organizations and businesses, the app also allows users to report local pollution.
In version 2.01, users can see when the status of a beach was last updated, 20 photos of each area and historical data. The app also helps users find organizations that work to help protect the beaches and connect and volunteer.
1,500 North American beaches are featured, including beaches in Alabama, Alberta, British Columbia, California, Florida, the Great Lakes and the Ottawa River region. And you can use Swim Guide to bookmark beaches and share them with your friends over Facebook and Twitter.
