A report from PBS Newshour details the terrible wake of destruction left by Japan’s 9.0 earthquake and tsunami. It includes widely circulated amateur video by residents in Sendai, taken by those who narrowly escaped to high ground and watched in horror as the massive sheet of water overtook a village, destroying everything in its path.

The hunt for survivors continues across hard-hit areas, fears grow regarding nuclear contamination from the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plants north of Tokyo (where the situation appears to be deteriorating) and residents try to come to terms with the incredible level of wreckage and lost lives.
