Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week” may have ended, but its killer Ultimate Sharks app lives on.
Discovery Channel’s Shark Week may be over, but you can still satisfy your need for sharks with the Ultimate Sharks app, a new app the network designed exclusively for the iPad. Featured sharks include the great white, tiger, bull, oceanic whitetip, shortfin mako, gray reef, lemon, blue, and ragged tooth.
Selecting a shark brings up the intro page, which provides a general overview, a video, and a photo gallery. But what really makes this app so fun is the interactive multimedia experience. The shark you select will swim right up to you and bob back and forth. Going into “3D shark mode” will bring up an incredibly detailed model of the shark that rotates for every possible angle. You can also make each shark swim, hunt and attack with the touch of a fingertip.
One parent who reviewed Ultimate Sharks on iTunes was thrilled to get her kids “engaged around something that is not a video game.” There are over 250 stunning high resolution photos and over three hours of exclusive video narrated by Mike Rowe, host of Discovery Channel’s hit show “Dirty Jobs.” And be sure to check out the app’s “Attack Stories” which recount unbelievable tales of human encounters with sharks, size comparisons (a great white is described as a “Lincoln town car with teeth”) and “10 Deadliest Sharks.”
